Since I've fallen so behind, it's already the week of the bowl game and soonersports.com is doing a fabulous job of constantly updating on what is happening in Tempe, AZ with our Sooners. I'll try to give you the quick version here, before I have to go pack! The Musil's hit the road Wednesday afternoon to make their way to Arizona for the 2nd time, and luckily, there is NO snow forecasted this time.

2011 Season: OU vs. Baylor
Again, it's been 2 weeks and 2 games since my last post. Toward the end of the season between holidays, school, and lack of sleep I just seem to lose track of time. At least the pictures always get uploaded to Facebook on time!
The Baylor update wasn't one I really wanted to write about anyway. The loss to Baylor signaled the end of any National Title hopes that still lingered in the minds of Sooner fans. And it definitely wasn't the outcome we anticipated when we rolled in to Waco that humid Saturday. The weather was horribly sticky (for November), the defense didn't play like the OU defense we're used to seeing, and the offense couldn't connect. All together it equaled one big mess for the Sooners.
Final Score: Baylor 45 - OU 38
#20 had a large crew filling the stands to cheer. The Musil Crew included Aunt Wendy, Aunt Karen, Mom, cousin Sarah, Me, Aunt Brenda, and dad's closest friend Kelly and his wife Nancy. It was such a blessing to have Kelly and Nancy with us that weekend. Kelly and Dad were friends nearly their entire lives and having him with us and hearing his stories always warms our hearts. Thanks for being there!

2011 Season: OU vs. Texas A&M
In the 2nd to last home game for the 2011 season, the Sooners faced the Texas A&M Aggies at Owens Stadium. It was an uncharacteristically windy day for Oklahoma. I like to tease the Okies about their "wind." Kansas has the wind and Oklahoma has the humidity. Not sure which is worse. The wind did cause some trouble for the kickers and those on kick-return though! Marshall's description of the flight path of the one kick that came to him is unbelievable.

The Musil Crew included some die-hard Marshall fans! The Hansen's made their first trip to Norman this season and it was great to spend the weekend with them. 2011 Season: OU vs. K-State
Sorry for the late post this week, Freelancer fans (and this is a long one, so be sure to read to the end!!) All the activities last weekend left me in a daze and this week has flown by. It's already Friday and I'm in my routine of getting the place ready for family. Each year we try to wait so patiently through the long months of spring and summer for football season and then when it finally does arrive it flies and we hardly have time to stop and enjoy all the good moments.
Last weekend in Manhattan was one of those moments where it truly felt like time stood still. I've always been an advocate for small towns and growing up "the small town way," but I was never more thankful to be from small-town western Kansas than last weekend. Even though the Musil's have no connection to Manhattan, the Sooners playing AT K-State felt like coming home.....
When Marshall was in high school at LaCrosse there were many moments where Mom and I would look at each other and think, "Wow, so many people are here to support him." It was baffling to us. To us, he was just Marshall. Yes, he was, and is, a well-rounded, honest, respectful, and caring young man. And, of course, he always has a hug for everyone, but again...he's just our Marshall. Little did we know how he would continue to touch the lives of our friends and family in the years to come.
During our years at OU, we've had many similar experiences. Family and friends waiting their turn to come to games. People from old hometowns purchasing tickets and making the trek to see a once Leopard take the field in Crimson and Cream. Which brings me back to Manhattan, after the game. Lining up with the other parents and waiting for our Sooners to emerge from the locker rooms, I looked around. To one side were troops from LaCrosse--old teammates, football moms and dads, parents of classmates, friends from the past. To the other side stood a delegation from Osborne--friends of the family, Dad's assistant coaches, young kids who are now fans of Marshall, even though they were too young to really know him when we moved. Behind me, always expectant, our family--from as far as Colby to as close as right there in Manhattan. A myriad of people who have known and loved Marshall from the day he was born until now, all waiting to see and hug him after his exploits on the field.
We are so blessed to have been a part of such wonderful small-town communities over the years. Having so many places and people to call "home" is a treasure for Marshall and I both. We thank you for the support you've shown #22, #2, #32, and #20 over the years.
The game itself went quite well for #20. He had some great blocks on kick-return AND his first catch as well! He didn't have a chance to gain any yards after the catch, but we'll leave that for the next game ;)

2011 Season: OU vs Kansas
Another football weekend has come and gone and while this girl is still recovering from driving 50,000 miles, the Kansas relatives were more than pleased to attend a game in their home state. In Marshall's 3 years at OU this was our first trip home to the Sunflower State and our family and friends did not disappoint. I sincerely hope the fans who traveled to Lawrence know how much it meant to us to have them there supporting our Sooner. It's hard to ever be negative when we have so much to be thankful for.
Going into the Kansas game, the Sooners were picked to win...big. But halfway into the 1st quarter, most fans were wondering what had happened to our undefeated Sooners. Landry Jones struggled through an off game, but if there were ever a week to be missing a few passes, this was it. Eventually the defense woke up in the 4th quarter, the Sooners prevailed, and all is still right in the college football world.
Our Sooner had 2 jobs this game. Kick return and field goal.
Marshall's best friend from Osborne, Aaron Geist, cheered for #20 while sitting in the front row of the KU student section and wearing red and blue. We will forgive him the clothing choice, but couldn't we get an OU shout out on ESPN 2, Aaron??? (you know I'm just kidding...)

Going into the Kansas game, the Sooners were picked to win...big. But halfway into the 1st quarter, most fans were wondering what had happened to our undefeated Sooners. Landry Jones struggled through an off game, but if there were ever a week to be missing a few passes, this was it. Eventually the defense woke up in the 4th quarter, the Sooners prevailed, and all is still right in the college football world.

Here's some photos from after the game. Marshall had no idea who was all waiting for him at the buses. The best part of the night was seeing his face find one person he knew, only to look up and see another smiling, friendly face. It's moments like these that make the sleepless nights and long Monday's all worth it.

2011 Season: OU vs Texas--The Red River Rivalry
The beginning of October finally rolled around and any Sooner fan knows what that means....OU/TX weekend, The Red River Rivalry, the Texas State Fair, 90,000 people, congested traffic on I-35, and Texas-style heat. And yet every year we keep flocking back to the Cotton Bowl, bad plumbing and all! At this point in the season, with analysts criticizing our strength schedule and a continuous drop in the polls, the Sooners (and their fans!) were out to prove their worth. And in true OU fast-paced offense, tenacious defense style...we accomplished just that. I mean, the student section doesn't start chanting "LONG-HORN, NET-WORK" in the 3rd quarter for no reason.
Proud to be a Sooner!
Final score: OU 55- TX 17
Sorry Texas. I guess what they say is true.. "BOOMER SOONER! TEXAS SUCKS!!!!"
As usual, Marshall had a Musil contingent on-hand to witness this decisive win.
Looking forward to this weekend? The Sooners travel back to Dorothy's home state to take on the sad little Jayhawks. Hopefully it doesn't get too ugly. We are excited to be in Kansas see some old friends! Bring it on, Hawks!

2011 Season: OU vs. Ball State
Last Saturday featured another OU home game here in the great town of Norman, OK. Ball State met the Sooners at Owen Stadium and early into the game it was apparent things were not going to go well for the Cardinals. The game was only broadcast on pay-per-view and after the final score was posted it's not very hard to see why.
Sooners win 62-6.
The Musil Crew this weekend included 2 of the Mom's siblings, Uncle Joe and Aunt Karen. Also joining us was Aunt Karen's youngest daughter, and Marshall's biggest fan, Jennifer. We all had a great time in Norman and Marshall and I definitely cherish the time we get to spend with our family when they're here!
This weekend is the Red River Rivalry!!! (hopefully not the last one...)

2011 Season: OU vs Mizzou
Football fans gathered at Owens Stadium last Saturday for the much-anticipated re-match between the OU Sooners and the Missouri Tigers. The major difference this year? No unruly Mizzou fans!And if you watched on TV you already know the win was NOT pretty, but...at least it's a win.
Sooner fans were on the edge of their seats during the first half...especially after some sketchy offensive plays and huge defensive mistakes, but in the end OU prevailed 38-28 and sent the kitties home with their tails between their legs.
Marshall's cheering section this weekend was rather large, consisting of the regulars: Mom, Tim, and Grandma. And adding Texas aunts, Brenda and Wendy and cousins Amanda and Jeff. The more the merrier to cheer for our Sooner!!
