February 4th has come and gone and we now have an official Oklahoma Sooner in our family! It feels so official now. Marshall had a very busy day, but enjoyed every minute of it, as did Mom and I!
Here's a breakdown of National Signing Day 2009 for Oklahoma Sooner, Marshall Musil.
(I smile every time I hear/say/type that--Oklahoma Sooner, Marshall Musil...*smile*)
His morning started at 7:50 with an interview for 101.9 and Mike Holliday on the y102 Morning Show. Mike has always kept track of Marshall since he knew Dad when we were in Colby. Dad's was the weights coach at Colby High School and the cross country kids from Colby Community College had to use the high school weight room, since they did not have one of their own. Mike became friends with Dad during work-outs. I think this would be a good time to use the cliche: Small world.
At 8:00 he signed the official papers and faxed them back to OU. This had to be done early because none of the coaches can talk about any of the players during Signing Day unless they have their actual signature on the papers. There were actually 2 papers that needed his John Hancock--one for the Big 12 and another for Oklahoma. Mom's thoughts on the contracts after reading through them: "I feel like I'm signing my son away." Well, technically I guess we are. But in the best way possible!
8:30 brought another radio interview with a Norman station.
The Signing Day Ceremony began at 12:45 at the high school. Marshall was joined by teammates Jeremy Garcia and Lucas Ruff who are both signing with Hutchinson Community College. LaCrosse is proud to have 3 college football signees in one year, what an honor! All three boys and their parents reenacted signing their official papers. The usual Musil troop was in attendance, as well as the high school and junior high football teams, community members, and press. Marshall was interviewed by Connor Nichol, the Hays Daily News sports writer, and Grant Meech from CatchitKansas was also in attendance--so look for another CatchitKansas video to be posted soon! Everyone enjoyed cake and cookies after the signing. (I made the cookies and they were edible. Go me.)
At 4:00 Marshall and Coach C participated in another radio interview with 97.2 out of Salina. This interview concluded with the same parting exchange that Mike ended with that morning.
Announcer: "And don't forget us little people back here in Kansas!"
Marshall: "Oh heck no."
That's right, Marshall. We all know that in your heart you'll always be a "little people" too. :)
The last interview of the day was one more radio interview, this time with James Hale from OU ESPN. Marshall wouldn't let us listen to him do his part of the interview on the phone, and we couldn't bring the station up online, so Mom and I both missed this one...
Through the whole recruiting process Marshall has become an expert interviewee. It was amazing listening to him chat with the many radio personalities. He's become a natural!
Today was such a monumental day for Marshall. Everything he has worked for and dreamed about since putting on his first little kids Cowboy's uniform as a kid is finally happening for him. We know Dad and Grandpa Musil have their chests puffed out and big smiles on their faces. I'm sure they're just as proud of Marshall as we are, if not more so.
